Katarina began to skate at age five. old. She was only five when her talent became evident, and in Karl-Marx-Stadt she enrolled in the school that was specifically made for kids with sporting talents. They met Jutta Muller here. The year that Witt made her breakthrough was in 1982 when she finished second at the World Championships in Copenhagen. The grace and elegant style of Witt caught the eye of everyone and she has been a dominant figure skater ever since. Olympic success at the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the ladies' gold medal in figure skating after an intense contest. The victory she won four years earlier was a lot closer. The free skater lost however she was awarded the gold medal in the figures that were compulsory and the short program. Witt became the first female repeatedly crowned winner of figure skating, following Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt, who was a star in the film industry as an actress before returning for figure skating, competed in the Lillehammer Winter Games 1994. Despite not winning an award for gold, the young skater won over the audience. Witt was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in the year 1995.
