Anika Noni Rose is an American actress and singer. She is best known for her character voiced by Tiana in The Princess and the Frog as the very first African American Disney princess. Disney Legends identified her as one in 2011. Rose appeared as Lorrell Robertson in Dreamgirls and was awarded an Academy Award. Anika Noni Rose (born September 6 1972) is an American actress and singer. Most famously, she is known for portraying Tiana Disney's first princess of African descent as she appeared in The Princess and the Frog (2009). Disney Legends named her as one of them in 2011. She was also recognized for her role as a character in Dreamgirls (2006), which was awarded the Academy Award for Best Picture. On the Starz show Power she was the character LaVerne Jukebox Ganner. Apart from her acting work, she's well-known for her roles performed in theater. This includes Emmie Thibodeaux in the Broadway version of Caroline or Change (2005) where she was awarded the Tony Award Best Features Actress in a Musical award was given and Beneatha as part of the Broadway revival A Raisin in the Sun (2017) for which the Tony Award Best Features Actress in Play nominations were made.
